Our Christmas festivities

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We've been having a great past few days of celebrations, family, food, gifts, and fun. It was really a great week for us this year and it was nice to get a few days off of work for some R&R.

This year, we had events on the 24th, 25th and 26th so it was busy, busy!

We started Christmas Eve off with our traditional family trip to the zoo. The nice thing about going on a "holiday" - it's empty! We brought our hot coffee, bundled up and let the kids run free. It was a fun way to get some fresh air before our evening activities.

After the zoo we had to stop for greasy burgers and fries - mmm!

During naptime I made my only batch of Christmas cookies this year, chocolate cookies with a vanilla peppermint frosting.

Then we headed to my brother's house for Christmas Eve dinner with his family and my parents! We enjoyed festive cocktails and a delicious dinner. The kids opened gifts and we left WAY past their bedtime! They were thrilled to get to stay up late.

Once they were asleep for the night, Grant and I set up the "Santa" gifts. A train table for Owen and a Frozen scooter for Lila!

They slept in on Christmas morning but were THRILLED to go downstairs to see their treats. Aren't they cute in their matching PJs?

We were hosting Grant's family for brunch on Christmas morning, so I woke up at 5:30 to "prep" so we had time to enjoy opening our gifts before everyone came over. I was a little tired by the end of the day, but prepping in advance is the ONLY way to host in my opinion. Since we'd all just had brunch together the weekend before with all of Grant's extended family, we decided to do something different and had breakfast tacos - which had scrambled eggs topped with cilantro, avocado, pico de gallo, onion and bacon and then was wrapped in a tortilla. So good!! Not exactly "Christmasy" but a fun alternative. I also made monkey bread and fruit salad.

The rest of the weekend was spent at another family event and enjoying much needed coffee by the tree while the kids played with all their fun new toys. I got this cute Anthropologie mug too - love these!

Hope you all had a great Christmas and weekend!! I will be sad to take our decorations down this week, but we have Owen's birthday to celebrate so will have fun decorating for that!

  3. Looks like a wonderful Christmas! The kids are adorable in their pjs and look so excited about their presents! I hope someone in my family has kids soon, they're so fun to celebrate the holidays with!

  4. Looks like so much fun! Burgers and fries are the best! It's nice that the zoo is open on Christmas or Christmas eve. A few places around us closed for those days.

I love that train table! I would definitely be playing with that one.
