What's up Wednesday

Today I'm linking up for another fun "What's Up Wednesday." Wow, there's a lot of questions to get through. I don't even have exciting responses for all of them, but here we go!

What we're eating ... I'm loving this crock pot lasagna I mentioned making this weekend. This is a great dish for having guests over too as it makes a lot and is completely hands off. I served ours with some cheesy bread sticks from Trader Joe's and a simple Caesar salad. Delish!

What I'm reminiscing about ... Ahh, if only vacations could last forever. I'm dreaming of our recent trip to Lake Chelan ... the wine ... the swimming ... the warm sun ... and let's be honest - not working for a week, which was almost the best part!

What I'm loving ... Family time. I am just loving the kids at the ages they are at. They were so cute and goofy on our trip. They were repeating movie lines in the car the whole drive home in funny voices. First Lila would say it, then Owen would copy her, then she'd do it in a new voice and so on. It was so funny!! Owen's chatting up a storm more and more everyday, and Lila loves the attention he gives her.

What we've been up to ... On Friday, Grant had his 10 year anniversary at work and to celebrate, they rented out Safeco Field for all the employees and their guests. It was SO cool! We got to run the bases, go in the dug out and even go in the locker rooms! So cool.

What I'm dreading ... Grant's going on a week-long hike on the Pacific Crest Trail soon I'm sure he'll have a great time but I don't like it when he's gone for so long, especially in the wilderness!! Wish me luck!!

What I'm working on ... Getting HEALTHY! My first cold of the season already!? Ugh. I tell you, for those who've never had a kid in "preschool" or daycare, cold season is BRUTAL! Now that Lila's been through one season, I'm hoping we don't get it as bad this year, but I tell you last year was horrible. One of us was ALWAYS sick, miserable and when you're a parent there are no sick days. Here's a cute pic of sick Owen last year. The only silver lining is that they like to snuggle more than usual :)

What I'm excited about ... The holiday season!! We are staying at a super cute beach house for the long Thanksgiving weekend and I'm really excited to plan for our meals there, what we'll do, etc. I always feel like the holidays are such a rush of cooking and traveling from gathering to gathering, so I'm excited that this year we'll be in one spot, on the beach, relaxing and enjoying the fresh ocean air. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas!!! I love getting our tree as early as possible and having festive drinks. Last year Grant made egg nog (below) and it was so delish! I can't wait for this time of year.

What I'm watching/reading ... I just finished the Royal We (LOVED) and am now reading the Hypnotist's Love Story by Liane Moriarty. I've read many of her other books and never did this one becuase it's not rated quite as high on Amazon, but I really like it!! I actually like it better than some of her others I've read. If you like her books, definitely check it out.

What I'm wearing ... Today's the first day I've worn TIGHTS for the season (even though it's still 75 and sunny here). Tights, booties, and scarfs are on the horizon!!!

What I'm doing this weekend ... No plans! Hoping to "sleep in" and remain unshowered/dressed all day (haha).

What I'm looking forward to this month ... I'm looking forward to Halloween!! We all have our costumes and because it's on a Saturday this year I'm excited to dress up as a family and have lots of fun!

What else is new ... Not a whole lot! I feel like that pretty much covered everything and more that anyone would want to know about us.

It's national Coffee Day!

Happy Coffee Day! I'll admit I didn't know about this very important holiday until I saw it on Facebook (hah), but since you all know I love myself a good cup of coffee (or 10) a day, this holiday needed to be recognized!! (Check out the places you can get a free cup here).

I didn't start drinking coffee until college, and then it was mostly just the occasional latte or mocha. I'd study at Starbucks or get one from a stand on campus.

Living in Seattle though, you must have an opinion on your coffee. There's a coffee shop on every corner, a drive through stand on every street and some blocks even have MORE than one Starbucks. It's funny because we're home of the Starbucks corporate HQ, but also home of LOTS of indie coffee shops and coffee snobs that would "scoff" nevverrrr drink that corporate Starbucks coffee. I do like a lot of the smaller/indie coffee shops' coffee better, but I don't typically discriminate.

I never really knew the difference between a latte, cappuccino, macchiato, etc. This makes it all make more sense!

My favorite way to have my coffee these days is strong/bold drip coffee with this "real" vanilla or hazelnut creamer.  PS - check your creamer ingredients - a couple of years ago I discovered that a lot of creamers have high-fructose corn syrup! This one still has some artificial flavoring, but way less sketchy ingredients.

And while I may have my "usual," I definitely don't discriminate and appreciate all forms!

I like it iced ...

Hot ... while wearing my slippers ...

I like it with fancy foam art ...

Or seasonal! Red cups are my favorite! My favorite seasonal drink? Peppermint mocha!

I  even like it while on vacation in warm weather ...

Or iced with cookies for an afternoon treat.

Or drizzled with chocolate and whipped cream at our local brunch spot!

Outdoors ...

And frozen ...

So there you have it, my love for coffee on this special International Coffee Day. So this may all just prove that I take WAY too many coffee pictures, or may mean that I need to drink more water and cut back on high calorie beverages, but I prefer it as a showing of my true love and devotion to all things coffee .

Home again

We are home now from our week away! We had a great trip but it was really nice to sleep in our own beds. Lila and I came down with bad colds on Saturday so our weekend included a lot of R&R, movies, OJ and Kleenex. And of course, laundry and unpacking (aka, the worst parts of vacation aftermath!)

The last day of our trip we stopped at a fun restaurant, Blueberry Hills Farm. It's a cool old farmhouse style breakfast/lunch restaurant located on - you guessed it, a blueberry farm! You can pick berries during blueberry season and they have lots of blueberry items on the menu - including blueberry syrup!

Here are the kids posing next to our outdoor picnic table ... See the blueberry plants behind them?

Lila's hot chocolate had a small portion of whipped cream ;)

And so did the kids' waffles!!!

I got a delicious BLT with blueberry mayo and some amazing fisherman's clam chowder - so good!!

After we got home, I spent the rest of the weekend nursing my cold with slipper boots and flannel, which was perfect for cold mornings in the yard. Owen is constantly wanting to play outside all day long, going to our screen door chanting "side, mama, side!!!" (His way of asking to go outside).

We also got a giant pumpkin on our way home, and despite passing many pumpkin patches we actually got this big one at Costco, ha!! (#notfestive)

Sunday we watched football and I made one of my favorite fall crockpot recipes - crockpot lasagna. Hearty and delicious.

Can't say I'm excited to go back to the work routine tomorrow, hoping we are at least all feeling better by then!!

Happy Friday!!

We are heading home from our vacation today!! We are hoping to enjoy the last few hours of fun before making the drive back over the mountains. We had such a great time and know we will be back, but it's always hard to pack up and go home. I always find myself wishing we had longer!!!

My post yesterday had my main favorites of the week, but here are a few new scenes from yesterday ...

We went to my favorite winery which looks like an Italian villa high on a hillside with gorgeous views of the lake and vineyards. We bought a bottle and sat on the lawn while the kids played and Lila "performed" various songs for us.

Then in the afternoon we hit the lake. Owen even took a dip!! He wasn't too sure about the pool when we first got here, but loves the hot tub (or hot pool as he calls it). But surprisingly, yesterday he had no problem wading into the freezing lake to throw some sand and retrieve a few rocks and sticks (#totalboy). Lila even swam out to a little dock with us and Grant was so proud.

Somehow trying to get Owen to smile always equals the worst smiles for me and an unimpressed look from him...

We can't wait to come back next year!!

Scenes from our trip

We are still in total vacation mode and in denial about heading home tomorrow!! Here are a few scenes from our fun ...

The lake here is notoriously always freezing because it's so deep but it actually wasn't too bad thanks to the hot summer we've had ...

Happy hour on the patio is the best way to watch the sun go down!! (We forgot toothpicks so improvised with forks!) I love me a Bloody Mary ...

And local wine!!

Speaking of wine we've gone to some new wineries this trip and gotten some great ones to take home. One even had a swing set and little fishing pond for the kids - new favorite for sure!!

Yesterday we rented a pontoon boat!! So fun to cruise around and had enough space for the kids to run around.

Hope your week is going well!!!

I love vacations!!! Because when else can you get ice cream before lunch??
