Stormy weekend

Happy Monday! We had a bizarre summer wind storm here this weekend that knocked out power in our area for 24 hours! It's the first time in the 7 years we've lived here that it's been out for more than an hour or so, and definitely the first time in August!! It's weird timing since the East Coast was having Tropical Storm warnings (definitely don't get those here), but ours had gusts up to 90 mph in some parts.

With all the wind and rain it QUICKLY looked like fall (even though it was still pretty warm and in the 70s!)

Nevertheless, we had fun staying cozy indoors! I started to get my fall decor out of storage - it's exciting to see everything again after a year! Lots of orange, burlap, pumpkins and more. Given that September starts tomorrow, I think I may as well get some of it put up this week!

By the time the sun went down it was DARK, but was a fun excuse to light every candle in the house and the kids loved using flashlights. After we put them to bed we enjoyed a candlelight dinner! (Thank goodness our gas BBQ which worked just fine!).

Steak and salad by candlelight!

By the time we woke up the next morning the power was just coming back on. Lila had to check EVERY light switch to make sure they all worked (haha), and then we headed outside to see lots of downed trees and branches.

It's supposed to rain here all week, so between that and back to school starting tomorrow, we're transitioning into fall in a very festive way!

  5. It must have just been raining everywhere this weekend. We had some trouble this morning and had to drive to work late to avoid flooding. Hope your power stays on and your Monday is dry!

  7. Haha Sophie is like Lila checking all of the light switches. I'm sorry about the storm but glad to hear you have your power back! But steaks in candlelight still sound good.

  11. I'm totally jealous that you've had such fall like weather. Ours lasted a few days but this week it's up into the 90's again. How cute is it that Lila checked each light switch:)
