Long Weekend Fun

we started the 4th with a festive outdoor breakfast - watermelon was a must!

We had a great long weekend for the 4th!! Although I may be a tad of a ... um ... fireworks grinch, I actually had fun this year. Our neighborhood normally sounds like World War 3 from 10 p.m. - 1 a.m. each 4th, and with sleeping babies that's just no fun. But, it actually wasn't as bad this year. I may have quietly celebrated when it started raining around 9 p.m. ... however, the weather the rest of the weekend was beautiful!

oh yes we did - mommy and me matching saltwater sandals! so festive!

On Friday, we went to the Edmonds 4th of July parade.

Carter and Lila loved racing the other kids for candy thrown off the floats.

owen enjoyed the parade too

Then we had a nice family BBQ with Nee Nee and Papa P!

the cousins ate together at the picnic table ...

while owen ate puzzle pieces at the adult table

The kids were asleep by 8 p.m. and thankfully they didn't wake up for the firework explosions even though it was SUPER loud even inside the house. Lila told us in the morning that she heard them but went back to sleep. Good girl.

The next day, we had friends over for a BBQ in the backyard. We inflated the kiddie pool and had way too much food. I also made a new hit - s'mores rice krispie treats. So bad, yet so good.

oozing marshmallow and chocolate goodness, mmmmm

Sunday we relaxed, and I've never been more thankful for a three day weekend. There's just something about the extra day that is so nice. We got a lot of tidying up done around the house, and enjoyed the sunshine in the backyard.

Enjoying an iced coffee by the "pool" on Sunday morning - beautiful 80 degree day!

and while owen napped, the girls played in the pool ...

while papa washed his new toy ...

Such a great long weekend to kick-off the summer!
